Zoe Madison - Welcome to the World

Well, as promised Zoe Madison Lihn decided to join us today. She was born at 6:46. She is surprisingly big for a heart baby, weighing in at 6 pounds, 7 ounces (the exact same birth weight as her big sister). Although, unlike her sister, Zoe was born with a full head of dark hair.

Other than her pesky heart defect, the medical team said she looked great!! We got to hold her for 10 minutes or so, before she was passed through the window and handed over to the intensive care team for inspection. They took her away to get hooked up to the neccesary machines and equipment and get her set up in the cardiac intensive care unit. We will get to go visit her in a couple hours.

We have not yet met with the cardiac and cardio-thoracic surgical teams, but I suspect Zoe's first open heart surgery, the Norwood, will take place on Friday (that's just a guess, so it's subject to change).

In the meantime, mom performed like an all-star and is doing great!!

As you can see, Zoe Madison is beautiful:

  1. She is beautiful! Congratulations!!! Gwenyth also was born with a full head of dark hair - must be a sign of tough cookies! Take good care, recover well and I wish you many sweet moments to enjoy with Zoe in the next few days - you'll get to love her, sing to her, touch her and hold her too (they'll let you for sure the night before surgery if not before then) - all those things will build her up and help her be strong. She is in our prayers!

  2. I am so happy for you and Caleb! Zoe looks beautiful and perfectly healthy, and you look great Stace! Glad you got to spend some quality time with her this evening. Miss you like crazy and thinking of you always. Sending my prayers to Miss Zoe. I know she has a tough road ahead of her but she is SO lucky to have parents like you, and the fabulous medical team at CHOP.

    Lots of love,
    Megan (and Dave!)
